The Father Adrien Arsenault Senior Arts Award was established by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts:

(a) to honour and acknowledge the excellence of the work of a senior Island artist who has produced a significant body of work in the practice of visual arts, writing and publishing, music, dance, fine craft, theatre, film, or video.

(b) to be a memorial to the late Fr. Adrien Arsenault who extensively promoted and contributed to excellence in the arts in this province through his teaching and his own body of work.

The award, which is the most senior and significant recognition and honour to be conferred in the arts in this province, will be administered by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts and will be awarded every two years with the first of such awards to be conferred in June, 1994.

Amount awarded: $5,000.00

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

The principal criterion will be the excellence of the work.

The recipient must be active in the creative arts and have been a resident of Prince Edward Island for a minimum of five years immediately prior to the nomination. A person will remain eligible if that person, while having periods of absence from this province during the five years, has maintained in the opinion of the Jurors a substantial connection with the P.E.I. Arts Community and this province.
The recipient must be a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status for a period of not less than three years.

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATION

1. Any person who is a resident of Prince Edward Island may nominate a person eligible for the award.

2. Nominations shall be in writing on a form supplied by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts and shall be signed by the nominator and by a seconder who must also be a resident of P.E.I. A nomination will be incomplete and will be rejected if the nomination form is not completed as prescribed on the form

3. All nominations must be received prior to the date established by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts and advertised as the date for close of nominations. Nominations received after the date of close of nominations shall be rejected.

4. After receipt of a nomination the Council of the Arts may require additional information on the nominees and where it requires such information the Council of the Arts shall give notice in writing of the requirement to the nominator and seconder setting forth a description of the additional information required.

5. All nominations received by the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts become the property of the Council and may be disposed of as it considers appropriate.
