In the spring of 2004, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts, the Province of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Charlottetown. Under this MOU, a new entity was created called ARS LONGA, Inc. (from the popular Latin quote literally meaning "art is long, life is brief").
The Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts remains as owner of the building, and provides a long-term lease of the building to ARS LONGA. The City of Charlottetown, and the Province of Prince Edward Island each commit to an annual contribution of $40,000.00 to offset the operating costs of the facility.
The Board of Directors for ARS LONGA was assembled from appointees from each of the signatories to the MOU. The Council appointed Alan Buchanan (now Chair of the ARS LONGA Board of Directors) and Karem Simon (UPEI Music Department). The City appointed Michael Murphy (of Inns on Great George) and Steven Dowling (of Patterson Palmer and Vice-Chair). The Province appointed Douglas MacArthur (the MacArthur Group consultants) and Alan McLeod (of Hyndman & Co Ltd).
The ARS LONGA board is now actively undertaking all its' duties and has assumed all aspects of managing the facility from tenant relations to bookings for the Performance Hall.
