Here. Now. The Art of Newcomers to PEI
Until March 28 Gallery @ The Guild
Posted by: Laurie McBurney on Friday, February 26, 2010
Artwork by artists from Japan, Korea, Iran and Colombia, among several others, will be featured at a new exhibit which opened at the Gallery @ The Guild on March 5.
Organized and curated by the P.E.I. Council of the Arts, “Here. Now. The Art of Newcomers to P.E.I.” has become a much-anticipated March feature at the Gallery. Of special note in this fourth edition of the show is a large artwork entitled “A Japanese View of Prince Edward Island” by Tomoyo Suzuki and a series of paintings based on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage in Spain by Marie Gauthier.
This year, for the first time, an Artist-in-Residence will be an added feature of the exhibit. Mauricio Aristizábal, who moved to Canada from Colombia in 2007 and whose work has been featured in past Newcomers Shows, was selected in a competitive process to be the PEICA Artist-in-Residence for the month of March. Aristizábal will be creating new artworks in the Artist-in-Residence studio, located immediately behind the gallery, on the lower level of The Guild building. Visitors are welcome to observe the artist at work, to talk about art in general, or his work specifically from noon – 1 p.m. daily or by appointment.
“Here. Now. The Art of Newcomers to P.E.I.” will be on display at the Gallery @ The Guild until March 28. If you have any questions, please contact Laurie McBurney at 902.620.3417 or by e-mail at lmcburney@peica.ca
