Deadline: Aug. 9
Posted by: Laurie McBurney on Tuesday, July 13, 2010
The Canadian Mental Health Association on PEI is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an art and poetry exhibition called Mindscapes PEI. The exhibit will be presented in collaboration with the Confederation Centre Art Gallery, and will be open to the public from Sept. 16 – Oct. 10, 2010.
The deadline for submissions to this exciting exhibition is Aug. 9. The CMHA/PEI is asking for submissions of art or poetry from anyone whose life has been affected by mental illness. This includes anyone who has, or had, a mental illness, or anyone closely connected to them, such as a family member, spouse, friend, or any medical professional, counsellor, or caregiver.
“Art is a powerful vehicle for expressing ideas, and the topic of mental illness is significant and timely,” says Gerald Beaulieu, Island sculptor and volunteer Mindscapes PEI Committee member.
“This exhibition will help to de-stigmatize issues of mental health on PEI. Any of us can struggle with mental health problems at some point in our lives, and this exhibition of art and poetry will celebrate the common humanity all Islanders share with the participants,” adds John Horrelt, President of CMHA/PEI’s Board of Directors, who notes that he is very pleased that Mindscapes is being launched on PEI.
Submission Guidelines for this exhibition are available on CMHA/PEI’s website, www.cmha.pe.ca, by following the ‘Mindscapes PEI’ link. You can also email celebration2010@cmha.pe.ca or pick up a copy at the Administrative Offices at 178 Fitzroy Street, Charlottetown, Second Floor
